Is Luxottica Taking Over the World of Eyewear?

In case you’ve never heard of them, Luxottica is the major player in the eyewear industry, and has been around for 50 years. How major? Well, they manufacture brands like Ray-Ban, Oakley, and Persol.

Don’t think that quite qualifies them as major? What if we told you they also own the Sunglass Hut chain of stores? Maybe you’re not impressed quite yet. Well, they also manufacture eyewear that is licensed by a host of major international designers, ranging from Chanel, Ralph Lauren, Prada, and Burberry.

But you’re not quite convinced. Let’s just round off the news then with the fact that they also own over 7,000 shops, all headed under various brands, and all across the globe. And the Luxottica business in the United States alone is said to be valued at over a hundred million dollars.

Luxottica is based in Milan, Italy, and just had its 50th birthday last year (in 2011). Currently, they are said to lead the eyewear industry, including in their portfolio the ability to design, manufacture, and sell designer eyewear. LensCrafters and Pearle Vision, more recognizable brand names in the eyecare industry, also fall under its umbrella.

Find out why, according to Forbes, this company is a stock to watch.

And more importantly, check out our line of “house brand” designer eyewear, as opposed to other designer lines, which fall under the category of “licensed brands.”
